Bodegas Juan Gil BLUE 2016, Jumilla, Spain - A very complex and elegant wine that offers an exotically perfumed bouquet, deeply concentrated blackberry, tobacco, cherry preserve and spice-cake flavors, a seamless and expansive palate, and a long, broad finish. It proffers a full bodied composition, harmonious tannins and medium acidity. The blend is 60% Monastrell, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Syrah, with Monastrell from older vines, allowing for balance and structure. Kept for 18 months in French and American oak barrels, this wine is great by itself, with food and opens up beautifully.
